Canucks 4, Blues 1: Radim Vrbata scored his team-leading 31st goal and added an assist as visiting Vancouver skated to its sixth consecutive victory over St. Louis.
Nick Bonino tallied in his second straight contest while Shawn Matthias and Alex Burrows also scored for the Canucks, who have won eight of 12 overall and four straight on the road. Defenseman Chris Tanev notched two assists and Eddie Lack finished with 23 saves to improve to 5-0-0 lifetime versus the Blues as Vancouver maintained its two-point lead over Calgary for second place in the Pacific Division.
Defenseman Zbynek Michalek scored his first goal for St. Louis, which suffered its fifth loss in six games (1-3-2) to remain three points behind first-place Nashville in the Central Division. Olli Jokinen notched an assist for his first point with St. Louis and Brian Elliott turned aside 18 shots.
After Elliott made glove saves to thwart breakaway bids by Jannik Hansen and Derek Dorsett, Vancouver made good on its third attempt as Matthias reeled in Tanev's stretch pass and beat the netminder 3:54 into the second period to open the scoring. Michalek's shot from the point at 12:44 forged a tie, but defenseman Kevin Bieksa's shot caromed off the end boards and Bonino scored from a sharp angle 31 seconds later to regain the lead for the Canucks.
Vrbata continued his torrid stretch by converting a 3-on-1 rush 7:06 into the third period to give Vancouver a 3-1 lead. Vrbata's goal was his sixth in eight games, and Burrows sealed the win with an empty-net tally.
