Canucks 3, Sharks 2: Nick Bonino's team-leading seventh goal broke a tie and Ryan Miller made 34 saves to improve to 10-1-0 as visiting Vancouver continued its hot start by holding off San Jose.

Radim Vrbata, like Bonino playing his first season with the Canucks, recorded his sixth goal while defenseman Alex Edler scored on the power play for Vancouver (10-4-0), which has won six of its last seven games. Miller made 14 stops in the third period and survived a late onslaught that appeared to culminate with Joe Thornton's game-tying goal at the end of regulation, but replays revealed the puck went into the net after time expired.

James Sheppard and Logan Couture scored for San Jose, which lost for only the second time in its last 12 meetings with the Canucks. Antti Niemi made 16 saves for the Sharks, who finished 1-1-0 on their brief homestand before a seven-game road trip that begins in Dallas on Saturday.

San Jose scored first as Tomas Hertl shoveled a shot from the deep slot that caromed off Sheppard's skate at 10:26 before Vrbata registered the equalizer during a 2-on-1 rush when his wrist shot slipped through Niemi with 7.7 seconds left in the first period. After Couture redirected Joe Pavelski's feed past Miller for a power-play goal at 10:43 - just 11 seconds after Derek Dorsett was send off for hooking, Edler's slap shot caromed off Sharks defenseman Justin Braun and past Niemi 2:02 later to again knot the contest.

Bonino, who missed the morning skate in what was termed a maintenance day, put Vancouver ahead with 2:40 left in the period, when he wired a wrist shot past Niemi for his third goal in two games. Miller made saves on Matt Nieto and Thornton during a power play late in the third to help preserve his seventh straight victory and the 304th of his career, moving him past Olaf Kolzig for sole possession of 26th place on the all-time list and drawing him within one of Billy Smith for the 25th spot.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Canucks RW Alex Burrows returned from a three-game suspension for an illegal hit to the head of Montreal D Alexei Emelin and assisted on Bonino's goal while recording five blocked shots. ... San Jose was 1-for-4 on the power play and is 12-for-48 this season, while Vancouver scored on its only man-advantage opportunity, running its total to 11-for-49. ... Canucks RW Zack Kassian (knee) did not play after taking a "stinger hit" Tuesday against Colorado.
