Pavel Datsyuk collected a goal and two assists and Tomas Holmstrom and Henrik Zetterberg both scored and set up a goal apiece as the Detroit Red Wings dominated the New Jersey Devils, 4-1, on Saturday.
Daniel Cleary added his 13th goal of the season and Chris Osgood stopped 33 shots in a rare start for the Red Wings, who own the best record in the Western Conference.
Detroit jumped on the slumping Devils right away on Saturday, beating Martin Brodeur for two goals in the first 1:42 of the contest.
Holmstrom got it started when he wristed a shot from above the left circle past Brodeur’s left pad just 28 seconds into the first. Cleary followed with his own wrister 74 seconds later to push it to 2-0.
Zetterberg’s 10th goal of the season came at the 11:37 mark of the second as he wristed a shot from the slot to widen the gap to 3-0.
New Jersey got on the board early in the third on a power-play goal by Patrik Elias, but the Red Wings got that one back later in the period on Datsyuk’s 11th tally of the campaign.
