Junior receiver Nico Collins had six catches for 165 yards and three TDs for Michigan (9-2, 6-2 Big Ten), which will take a four-game winning streak into next week's showdown against rival No. 2 Ohio State.
Up 21-14 at halftime, Michigan put the game away with 18 points in the third quarter.
After a 27-yard field goal by Quinn Nordin put Michigan up 24-14 with 10:04 left in the third, the Wolverines scored touchdowns on two of their next three possessions.
Patterson connected with Collins on a 76-yard catch-and-run TD. Later, after Michigan linebacker Josh Uche came up with a strip sack that the Wolverines recovered at Indiana's 19-yard line, Patterson hooked up with Collins again on the next snap to extend Michigan's lead to 39-14.
Patterson finished 20 of 32 with one interception.
