Four interceptions highlighted an overwhelming Oregon defensive effort as the 13th-ranked Ducks routed Colorado 45-3 on Friday night in Eugene, Ore.
The Ducks (5-1, 3-0 Pac-12) have held each of their first three conference opponents to seven points or fewer. With five consecutive games surrendering fewer than 10 points, Oregon matched a program milestone last reached in 1958.
Verone McKinley III accounted for two of the four picks of Colorado quarterback Steven Montez, one of which was made in the end zone late in the second quarter.
The pick ended a possession that threatened to pull the Buffaloes within one score, and it led to a game-breaking drive for the Ducks. They went 80 yards on eight plays in just 1:07, capped on a 3-yard Jaylon Redd touchdown run that put Oregon on top 24-3.
Redd's score punctuated a 17-point second quarter that also included a 1-yard Cyrus Habibi-Likio touchdown carry and a 32-yard Camden Lewis field goal. Quarterback Justin Herbert started the game's scoring with a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jacob Breeland in the first quarter.
Herbert completed 18 of 32 passes for 261 yards with two scores, the second a 13-yard throw to Redd in the third quarter. Habibi-Likio ran for three touchdowns.
The Ducks' defense, however, wrote the night's story.
Colorado (3-3, 1-2) began the night ranked fourth in the conference at 34.6 points per game. The Buffs produced promising possessions in the first half, getting a James Stefanou 27-yard field goal to end a 72-yard drive in the first quarter. They went 69 yards before Montez's end-zone interception throw.
The Buffaloes advanced into Oregon territory just three more times on drives that ended in two fourth-down stops and a missed field-goal attempt.
The Ducks completed their third outing in the last four without surrendering a touchdown.
Oregon's win did not come without a price. Breeland left in the first half with a leg injury. He returned to the sideline on crutches. Also, safety and return specialist Jevon Holland was carted off the field after colliding with teammate Troy Dye.
