Tre King had 21 points and hit an unlikely four of Iowa State's season-high 14 3-pointers, as the No. 23 Cyclones remained undefeated at home with a 79-75 Big 12 victory over seventh-ranked Kansas on Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
King, 3-of-16 from beyond the arc entering the game, highlighted a 14-of-30 3-point effort from Iowa State (16-4, 5-2), which made nine of 15 in the second half alone to improve to 13-0 at home.
Keshon Gilbert, who sank a key late 3, had 16 points and Curtis Jones added 15 off the bench for the Cyclones, who have won seven straight at home against ranked opponents.
Hunter Dickinson had 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Kevin McCullar scored 16 for Kansas (16-4, 4-3), which rallied from 12 points down thanks to 6-of-11 3-point shooting in the second half, but fell to 1-3 on the road in the Big 12.
The Jayhawks trailed 74-65 with 2:41 remaining, then Dickinson and McCullar hit consecutive 3-pointers and KJ Adams sank one of two free throws to make it a two-point game with 1:10 left. However, Gilbert knocked down a guarded 3 from the top of the arc with 41 seconds to thwart the Jayhawks comeback.
Kansas erased a four-point halftime deficit to tie things at 30-30. However, Iowa State followed with a 10-2 spurt. King sank his third 3-pointer and capped that surge with a dunk for a 40-32 advantage, which increased thanks to ISU's work from distance.
Each team shot less than 37 percent in the first half and committed a combined 15 turnovers. Kansas led 26-25 when the Jayhawks' Parker Braun was whistled for a foul and Kansas coach Bill Self was hit with a technical foul with 34.6 seconds left before the break.
Iowa State's Tamin Lipsey made a pair of free throws. Then, teammate Milan Momcilovic knocked down his first 3-pointer of the day that gave Iowa State a 30-26 halftime lead.
King also recorded nine rebounds.
