Providence established early control for the second straight game and cruised to a 79-59 non-conference victory over visiting Maine Tuesday night.
Saturday, the Friars (10-2) ran off 31 straight points to make early work of Wagner. Tuesday, Providence established an 18-2 lead with a 15-0 run. They led by as many as 19 points in the first half and 27 in the second, with 11:17 remaining.
Emmitt Holt scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Jaylen Lindsey and Ryan Fazekas had 12 points apiece -- Fazekas with a season high -- while Lindsey had nine rebounds. Kyron Cartwright added nine points, six assists and six rebounds.
Rodney Bullock, who came into the game averaging 20.1 points and 7.0 rebounds, was just 2-for-11 from the floor and finished with eight points and five rebounds.
Wes Myers led the Black Bears (4-8) with 13 points, while Andrew Fleming had 12 points and 11 boards.
The win allowed the Friars to finish off a sweep of a six-game homestand. They visit former Big East rival Boston College Friday and then open Big East play with games at No. 17 Xavier and No. 13 Butler.
The victory also improved Providence to 47-1 in non-conference home games under coach Ed Cooley and to 57-6 against teams from America East.
The Friars came in leading the Big East and were 10th in the country in defense at 58.9 points per game.
The game was a homecoming for Maine coach Bob Walsh, an assistant at Providence for seven years under Tim Welsh.
The Black Bears remain in Providence and will face Brown Thursday night.
