DePaul enjoyed its first laugher of the season as the Blue Demons rolled to an 80-61 non-conference victory over Lamar on Tuesday night at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

Sophomore guard Eli Cain's 21 points and senior guard Billy Garrett Jr.'s 15 points paced DePaul (5-2) to its largest victory margin of the season. Eleven of DePaul's 12 players registered points as nobody played more than 21 minutes except for Cain and junior forward Tre'Darius McCallum (eight points, 10 rebounds, three blocks).

In erasing the bad taste left by Saturday's 16-point loss at Northwestern, the Blue Demons shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the visitors 45-30.

Sophomore forward Dorian Chatman came off the bench to lead Lamar (4-4) with 21 points. Junior guard Zjori Bosha added 10 points for the Cardinals, who canned only 30 percent of their field-goal attempts.

After needing furious rallies to win their last two home games by two points apiece (against Missouri State and Drake), the Blue Demons got comfortable quickly against the Cardinals.

Lamar took its only lead on junior guard Torey Noel's 3-pointer five minutes into the game, but DePaul responded with junior forward Joe Hanel's layup, junior forward Tre'Darius McCallum's jumper and senior guard Darrick Wood's 3-pointer to assume a 12-6 lead.

The Blue Demons built a 34-25 halftime lead and expanded their margin from there. When senior guard R.J. Curington converted a three-point play with 10:07 to go, DePaul owned a 56-35 lead. When Cain converted his own three-point play with 5:26 to go, that gave the Blue Demons a 71-46 bulge.

DePaul's lead grew as large as 26 points before Lamar rallied to score nine points in the final three minutes and avoid its worst offensive showing of the season. When the Cardinals won 63-60 on Nov. 16 at Oregon State, they pulled the upset despite hitting only 28.2 percent of their shots.
