Center Tyler Davis collected game-high totals of 25 points and eight rebounds Monday night as Texas A&M subdued Texas A&M Corpus Christi 86-69 in a nonconference matchup at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas.

The 6-foot-10, 265-pound Davis, the only returning starter from last season's Sweet 16 team, hit 9-of-12 shots from the field and 7-of-9 at the foul line for the Aggies (5-2). Guard Admon Gilder added four 3-pointers and 17 points, and 6-10 forward Tonny Trocha-Morelos scored 13.

Four players reached double figures for the Islanders (5-2), led by 14 points from guard Cole Martinez. Forward Rashawn Thomas added 12 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Guards Kareem South and Ehab Amin finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

There were 11 lead changes and three ties in a competitive first half that saw Texas A&M Corpus Christi hold a lead more than nine minutes into the half before Texas A&M took over. A 3-pointer by Trocha-Morelos with 9:16 left in the half snapped a 21-21 tie, and the Aggies went on from there to grab a 45-33 halftime lead.

The lead never dipped below 10 points in the second half as Texas A&M sank 57.7 percent of its field-goal tries, expanding the lead to 17 with 6:08 remaining and basically trading buckets with the Islanders for the game's remainder.

The Aggies sank 54.4 percent from the floor and converted 8-of-20 3-point attempts. They also outscored Texas A&M Corpus Christi 40-24 in the lane and scored 19 points off 16 turnovers from the Islanders.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi outrebounded Texas A&M 39-31, but hit only 28-of-68 field-goal attempts. The Islanders also got to the foul line only six times, 18 fewer than the Aggies.
