Center Tyler Davis scored 17 points as Texas A&M cruised to a 76-53 win over American on Monday night at Reed Arena.

The Aggies never trailed in improving to 2-0 while the Eagles fell to 0-2 on the young season.

Forward D.J. Hogg added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Texas A&M. Forward Robert Williams scored 10 off the bench for the Aggies, who shot 53.6 percent (30 of 56) in their second home game to start the season,

American was led by its backcourt, with Delante Jones scoring a game-high 18 and Sa'eed Nelson adding 12 points.

The Eagles were close early and were down only 14-11 when Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy called a timeout. The stoppage appeared to wake up the Aggies, who responded with a 12-4 run to take their first double-digit lead at 26-15.

American coach Mike Brennan tried to stop the bleeding with his own timeout, but the Aggies methodically began to pull away. Forward Eric Vila ended the first half with a 3-point heave from beyond halfcourt to give Texas A&M a 41-20 lead at the break.

Davis had 12 points in the first stanza and Hogg scored nine. Jones had eight points for the Eagles.

The Aggies shot 56.7 percent in the first half (17 of 30) compared to American's 29.6 percent (8 of 17). The Eagles held a 20-15 advantage on the boards.

The advantage reached 30 less than eight minutes into the second half as Kennedy substituted liberally. Nine Aggies played at least 14 minutes.

Texas A&M is 138-13 in nonconference games at Reed Arena since moving into the facility in 1998. The Aggies and Eagles met for the first time.

The Aggies' three-game homestand to open the season concludes Friday when they host USC at Reed Arena. American is at Akron on Thursday.
