No. 9 Duke 69, Maryland 67: Jabari Parker made a go-ahead dunk among his 23 points and added eight rebounds as the Blue Devils knocked off the visiting Terrapins.
Rasheed Sulaimon and Rodney Hood scored 11 points apiece for Duke (20-5, 9-3 ACC), which was welcoming Maryland for the final time as ACC rivals before the Terrapins move to the Big Ten next season. Amile Jefferson hauled in 12 rebounds to go along with seven points.
Dez Wells scored all 17 of his points in the second half and Jake Layman recorded 18 and six rebounds for Maryland (14-12, 6-7). Charles Mitchell scored 12 points for the Terrapins but got the call on the final possession and could not get the potential go-ahead basket to fall.
The Blue Devils led the entire first half and held a 49-40 advantage with under 14 minutes remaining before going over seven minutes without a field goal as the Terrapins battled back. Wells converted a three-point play to knot the contest at 52-52 and gave the Terrapins their first lead of the game on the next possession.
Sulaimon took advantage of a turnover and buried a 3-pointer to put Duke back on top 62-60, but Maryland kept coming as Wells tied it again with a layup and nailed a 3-pointer for a 67-64 edge with just under three minutes left. Parker’s emphatic driving dunk with 1:19 on the clock gave the Blue Devils the lead at 68-67 and the Terrapins were unable to make another basket.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Terrapins F Evan Smotrycz, who finished with six points, went 2-of-9 from the field and is 5-of-26 from the field over the last three contests. … Duke, which entered leading the ACC in 3-point shooting at 42 percent, made just 5-of-24 from beyond the arc. … Parker is averaging 24.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in the last three games.
