Freshman Kyle Anderson recorded his fourth double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the host Bruins pulled away late against the Bears in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

Freshman Shabazz Muhammad had 16 points and six rebounds for UCLA (11-3, 1-0 Pac-12), which extended its winning streak to a season-high six games. Travis Wear scored 15 points and Norman Powell added 10.

Allen Crabbe led the Bears (8-5, 0-1) with 21 points and seven rebounds, and Richard Solomon had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Cobbs made just six of his 18 shots and finished with 12 points.

California, which trailed by 10 at halftime, cut the lead to 61-57 with 6:36 left before Muhammad capped a 7-0 run with a 3-pointer that put UCLA ahead by 11 with 4:10 to play.

Both teams struggled from 3-point range, with California missing all 13 of its shots and UCLA shooting 33.3 percent (4 of 12). David Kravish grabbed a team-high 12 boards for the Bears, who outrebounded the Bruins 44-36.

GAME NOTEBOOK: California senior G Brandon Smith missed his second straight game with a concussion. … UCLA improved to 118-25 in Pauley Pavilion under coach Ben Howland. … The Bruins shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and 44.8 percent overall.
