Trae Golden scored nine of his 11 points in the final six minutes as Tennessee rallied from an eight-point deficit to beat visiting East Tennessee State 66-63 on Friday.
The Volunteers (5-6) trailed 59-51 with 5:36 to go before finishing with a 15-4 run.
Kenny Hall’s dunk with two minutes to go pushed the Volunteers ahead 60-59 and Golden’s fastbreak dunk with 1:22 remaining put Tennessee in front 62-59.
East Tennessee State (5-6) got within 64-63 on Adam Sollazzo’s layup with 10 seconds left, but the Volunteers hung on to extend their modest winning streak to two games.
The Buccaneers raced to an 11-point lead in the first half, but Tennessee’s Cameron Tatum made a 3-pointer with 2:13 left to tie the game at 29.
Tatum led Tennessee with 13 points, while Sollazzo paced East Tennessee State with 19 points and Adam Hubbard added 18.
