Miami turned in another strong defensive effort Saturday in stopping North Florida 75-62.
It was the second straight game that the Hurricanes have limited an opponent to 25 points in the first half, and the effort sparked coach Jim Larranga’s team to a third straight victory. North Florida shooters were held to 40.4 percent from the field by Miami, which is allowing only 59 points per game.
Miami (3-0) got 14 points and five rebounds from Garrius Adams and 13 points, including three 3-pointers, from Malcolm Grant. Durand Scott made only 1-of-10 from the field, but hit 9-of-10 free throws and scored 11. Kenny Kadji, the transfer from Florida, added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
North Florida (1-3) was led by reserve Travis Wallace, who made 7-of-14 field goal attempts and scored 16 points. Andy Diaz scored 13 points and had nine rebounds while Jerron Granberry scored 12 points on four 3-point baskets.
Miami is now 3-0 against North Florida.
