Kentucky, playing before the home crowd at Rupp Arena for the first time since its season opener, scored the first 14 points of the game and routed Radford 88-40 in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament.
The No. 2 Wildcats (5-0) led 45-14 at the half and emptied their bench, but nothing could slow the onslaught. Kentucky put all five of its starters in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field (31 of 62) and 87.5 percent (21 of 24) from the free throw line. It was the third time Kentucky has scored more than 85 points this season.
Kentucky’s top performer was sophomore Terrence Jones, who had a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 15 points a game-high nine rebounds. Marquis Teague (13), Anthony Davis (12) and Doron Lamb (10) also scored in double figures.
Radford (3-4) got 10 points from Johnathan Edwards, who made 5 of 10 from the field and added 10 rebounds. The Highlanders made only 26.2 percent from the floor and a miserable 2 of 25 (8 percent) of their 3-pointers.
