Derrick Williams scored a career-high 31 points to lead Arizona to a 73-71 comeback win over Cal Thursday in Tucson, Ariz.
Cal led by one at halftime and stayed in front for much of the second half, before Arizona rallied. The Wildcats (13-3, 2-1 Pac-10), who trailed by as many as nine, took their first lead of the second half at 64-62 lead with 3:39 to play.
Williams yanked down 12 rebounds and made 16 of a school-record 22 free throw attempts. The sophomore forward has scored in double figures in every games this season and recorded his fourth double-double on Thursday.
Allen Crabbe led Cal (7-7, 0-2 Pac-10) with 17 points but missed a key free throw down the stretch that could have pulled the Bears even with 30 seconds to play.
Arizona hosts Stanford Saturday. Cal will look to bounce back at Arizona State Saturday.
