MILWAUKEE -- Jean Segura drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Ryan Braun scored an insurance run on an eighth-inning wild pitch as the Milwaukee Brewers snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday afternoon at Miller Park.
First baseman Adam Lind gave the Brewers an early lead with a second-inning home run and needed just a triple for the cycle.
Segura, facing Cubs right-hander Kevin Gregg (0-2) with two outs in the seventh, singled up the middle to score center fielder Logan Schafer and break a 2-2 tie.
Braun led off the eighth with a base hit and moved to second on a two-out single by pinch-hitter Jason Rogers. He stole third and scored easily when Reds third baseman Khristopher Negron missed the throw.
Brewers right-hander Francisco Rodriguez, who allowed the Reds to score the go-ahead run on a ninth-inning wild pitch Wednesday night, worked around a two-out double by shortstop Zack Cozart for his second save of the year.
In just his second start since undergoing elbow surgery in September, Reds right-hander Homer Bailey allowed two runs (both earned), seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. He gave up a solo home run to Lind in the second, which put the Brewers up 1-0, then another solo shot by third baseman Amaris Ramirez to lead off the fifth.
Brewers starter Kyle Lohse (1-3) looked much more like himself after opening the season with three dismal starts. The veteran right-hander went seven innings, scattering three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Reds left fielder Marlon Byrd left the only blemish on Lohse's outing, belting a two-run homer in the fifth that gave the Reds a 2-1 lead.
NOTES: With C Jonathan Lucroy on the disabled list with a fractured left toe, Martin Maldonado was in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game. Milwaukee called up C Juan Centeno earlier in the week to provide depth, but manager Ron Roenicke said he would continue to use Maldonado until he needed a day off. ... Cincinnati C Tucker Barnhart made his second start of the season, giving C Brayan Pena a day off. Since C Devin Mesoraco suffered a hip injury on April 12, Pena has started 10 of the last 11 games. ... Thursday marked the end of a 10-game road trip for the Reds, who return to Cincinnati on Friday to host the Chicago Cubs. RHP Mike Leake (0-1, 3.92 ERA) will start for the Reds and LHP Jon Lester (0-2, 6.89) will go for the Cubs.
