Taylor Ward and Jared Walsh homered during the Angels' six-run 10th inning as Los Angeles came from behind for a 10-5 win over the host Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.
Ward's one-out, two-run shot gave the Angels a 6-4 lead. Later in the inning, after Hirokazu Sawamura replaced Matt Barnes out of Boston's bullpen, Anthony Rendon hit a run-scoring single to left and Walsh clubbed a three-run homer to left-center.
Walsh was 3-for-5, adding a double, two runs scored and four RBI for the Angels, who had been shut out in their previous two games.
Max Stassi and Rendon also homered, as four of Los Angeles' eight hits left the park. Rendon was 2-for-5, scored twice and drove in two more.
Down a run in the ninth, the Angels had runners on first and second with two outs. That's when Walsh lined a single to right to win a nine-pitch at-bat against Jake Diekman and extend the game.
Ryan Tepera (1-0) worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to win the game.
Boston's Xander Bogaerts (2-for-5) hit a go-ahead solo homer inside the left-field foul pole high above the Green Monster in the eighth.
Trevor Story also went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI, while Christian Arroyo and Bobby Dalbec scored two runs apiece.
Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a run-scoring single in the 10th for Boston. Barnes (0-2), who took the loss, was charged with four runs (three earned) in two-thirds of an inning.
The game was scoreless until Boston quickly made Angels lefty Reid Detmers pay for walking Dalbec and Arroyo consecutively to begin the third. Story roped a double down the left-field line to score them both.
Boston starter Garrett Whitlock struck out nine over five innings. He struck out the side in the first inning and six of the first nine batters he faced.
The Angels tied the game with their first runs in 22 innings in the fifth. Walsh doubled and came home after Stassi hit a two-out, two-run home run.
Story's double off the Monster gave Boston a 3-2 lead in the bottom half.
After Boston reliever Austin Davis struck out the side in the sixth, Rendon took him out to left for a game-tying homer in the seventh.
Detmers worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out two.
