Hunter Renfroe and Freddy Galvis hit home runs, while left-hander Eric Lauer went five strong innings as the San Diego Padres upset the host Los Angeles Dodgers' momentum with a 5-3 victory on Friday night.

The Dodgers entered with seven victories in their last eight games to take over first place in the National League West, but the last-place Padres held off a late rally. The Dodgers' lead in the division was cut to 1 1/2 games over the Colorado Rockies.

Lauer (6-7) was in control against the Dodgers (85-69) for a third time this season. The rookie gave up one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. He has now has given up just two runs over 19 2/3 innings against the Dodgers this season. Kirby Yates picked up his 10th save.

Enrique Hernandez hit a home run for the Dodgers, who went just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Dodgers entered 25-for-78 (.321) with runners in scoring position over their previous 10 games.

Yasiel Puig had an RBI single in the eighth inning, but Cody Bellinger struck out against Yates with two aboard to end the eighth-inning threat. Wil Myers put the game away for the Padres with a two-run double in the ninth inning.

The Dodgers appeared to be off and running with the long ball, when Hernandez connected on a solo shot to left-center field in the third inning off Lauer. Hernandez's 21st of the season gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers now have 219 home runs this season, second most in club history and two away from tying the club record set last season. The Dodgers' home run total easily leads the National League.

The Padres (62-92) chased Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling in the fourth inning.

Franmil Reyes opened with a single and Renfroe hit a two-run home run, his 24th of the season. After walks to Francisco Mejia and Corey Spangenberg, Stripling was replaced by Pedro Baez.

Stripling (8-5) gave up two runs on three hits and two walks over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four. In each of his three starts since rejoining the rotation, Stripling has gone just 3 1/3 innings, with six runs allowed on 10 hits in those 10 innings.

The Dodgers' Justin Turner doubled in the first inning and has reached base in 42 of his last 45 games since he was reinstated from the disabled list Aug. 2 because of a right groin strain.
