Marlins 3, Braves 2: Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s ninth-inning single snapped a tie as visiting Miami finished the four-game series with three victories.
Saltalamacchia finished with three hits, Giancarlo Stanton added two hits and Marcell Ozuna scored the winning run for Miami. Henderson Alvarez (7-5) allowed two runs on six hits in eight solid innings, and Steve Cishek pitched the ninth for his 24th save.
Justin Upton finished with three hits and Chris Johnson homered for Atlanta, which fell 1½ games behind idle Washington in the National League East. Craig Kimbrel (0-2) threw two costly wild pitches in the ninth after starter Aaron Harang allowed two runs on seven hits in seven innings with five strikeouts.
Kimbrel threw a wild pitch on strike three to Ozuna in the ninth, allowing Ozuna to reach first base. After Kimbrel uncorked another wild pitch to move Ozuna to second, Saltalamacchia hit a 2-2 pitch to center and Ozuna beat B.J. Upton’s throw to the plate to put Miami ahead.
Atlanta jumped on top 2-0 in the second when Johnson sent Alvarez's offering over the fence in left for his eighth homer of the season – and fifth in the past nine games. The Marlins rallied with a pair of fifth-inning runs - Adeiny Hechavarria’s RBI single scoring Ozuna and Christian Yelich’s fielder’s choice plating Saltalamacchia to tie the contest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami 3B Casey McGehee finished the four-game series 1-for-15, going hitless in the final three games to drop his average from .322 to .312. … Yelich finished 0-for-4, snapping his road hitting streak at 17 games. … Upton recorded his eighth three-hit game of the season.
