Orioles 5, White Sox 4 (12): David Lough scored the decisive run on a wild pitch after Nelson Cruz hit a tying grand slam in the eighth inning as host Baltimore claimed the series from Chicago.
Nick Hundley drew a walk off Daniel Webb (4-2) to start the 12th and Lough pinch ran and advanced to third on a double by Nick Markakis. Webb threw wildly to Steve Pearce and Lough easily scored to make a winner out of Tommy Hunter (2-1), who recorded one out in the top of the 12th.
Jose Abreu homered, Tyler Flowers drove in two runs and Adam Eaton tied his career high with four hits and drove in a run for the White Sox, who have lost six of seven games. Markakis went 4-for-6 for Baltimore in a contest that was halted prior to the 10th inning due to a rain delay of 69 minutes.
Chicago starter Hector Noesi was charged with two runs and nine hits and didn't issue a walk in seven-plus innings and departed after giving up back-to-back singles to start the eighth. Scott Downs issued a two-out walk to Chris Davis to load the bases before Cruz belted his tying grand slam to right off Javy Guerra.
Abreu got Chicago started with a fourth-inning blast inside the left-field foul pole for his 23rd homer and Eaton added a run-scoring triple to right-center field in the fifth off Baltimore’s Ubaldo Jimenez, who gave up four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Dayan Viciedo walked and Alejandro De Aza doubled before Flowers singled them both home in the seventh to make it a four-run margin.
GAME NOTEBOOK: All nine of Baltimore’s hits against Noesi were singles. … Eaton extended his hitting streak to 12 games and has reached base in 20 straight outings. … Orioles 3B Manny Machado had his appeal heard Wednesday and the club is hopeful his five-game suspension stemming from his actions against Oakland on June 8 will be shortened.
