Rangers 6, Athletics 5 (10): Adrian Beltre hammered a 3-0 pitch over the wall in left-center field with one out in the top of the 10th to help Texas defeat host Oakland.
Mitch Moreland hit his second homer of the game later in the inning against Chris Resop (1-1) as the Rangers snapped a five-game skid in Oakland. Tanner Scheppers (3-0) pitched two hitless innings of relief and Joe Nathan allowed a run-scoring double to Seth Smith in the 10th before getting Eric Sogard to ground out with the bases loaded for his 12th save of the season.
Texas tied the game in the eighth on the second on two sacrifice flies by Nelson Cruz. Beltre’s tiebreaking blast was the 25th of his career against the Athletics.
The Rangers scored three runs in the fourth on Cruz’s sacrifice fly and Moreland’s two-run homer for a 3-0 lead. Jed Lowrie had a run-scoring double during Oakland’s two-run fifth before Luke Montz hit a game-tying sacrifice fly in the sixth and the Athletics took the lead later in the inning on a double by Nate Freiman.
Oakland starter Bartolo Colon gave up three runs and four hits and walked one in six innings. Texas’ Derek Holland gave up four runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland’s Josh Donaldson went 4-for-5 and has two four-hit games this season and three in his career. … The multi-homer game was the fifth of Moreland’s career. He has three homers in the series and six over his last nine contests. … Nathan’s save was the 310th of his career, tying Hall of Famer Goose Gossage for 19th on the all-time list.
