Athletics 6, Yankees 4: Derek Norris homered and drove in four runs while Bartolo Colon continued his stellar surge with six scoreless innings as Oakland held on to extend its home winning streak to nine games.
Colon (8-2) yielded three singles and walked four en route to his fifth consecutive victory. The former Cy Young Award winner, who struck out three, has posted a 0.75 ERA during his winning streak.
Coco Crisp got the Athletics on the board early with his 11th career leadoff home run and third this season. Norris made it 2-0 with an RBI double in the second inning and belted a three-run shot in the fourth to open a comfortable lead.
Josh Donaldson hit a leadoff double in the sixth and scored on a wild pitch by CC Sabathia (6-5), who surrendered six runs and eight hits in six innings. The burly left-hander walked one and struck out three in falling to 8-10 lifetime against Oakland.
Mark Teixeira collected three RBIs as New York made things interesting by scoring twice in both the eighth and ninth innings. But Grant Balfour notched his 16th save in as many opportunities by getting Travis Hafner on a two-out flyout to the wall in left-center field while representing the tying run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland LF Yoenis Cespedes left the game after two innings with tightness in his left hamstring. He felt pain while running out a grounder in the first but returned to the field for the second before being replaced a frame later by Seth Smith. ... Colon has walked five batters in his last two starts after issuing only four free passes in his first 11 outings. ... New York has lost five in a row at O.co Coliseum.
