Mets 4, Braves 2: Slumping Ike Davis delivered a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning and host New York snapped Atlanta's eight-game winning streak.
Lucas Duda belted a solo homer and John Buck ignited the three-run eighth with an RBI single as the Mets halted a five-game losing streak overall and an eight-game skid at Citi Field.
Davis was the most unlikely hero, coming into the contest with two hits in 44 at-bats, but he lined a one-out bases-loaded single off Cory Gearrin (1-1) to deliver the go-ahead runs with his first RBIs since May 9.
LaTroy Hawkins (1-0) pitched one inning for the win and Bobby Parnell worked a perfect ninth for his seventh save to reward a brilliant performance from Shaun Marcum, who struck out a career-high 12 and allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings.
Marcum, who entered with an 0-5 mark and 6.59 ERA, was in line for his first win of the year until Dan Uggla hammered a monstrous two-run homer with one out in the seventh inning to put the Braves on top 2-1. Atlanta starter Julio Teheran allowed only one run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Uggla's blast was Atlanta's National League-leading 65th but the Braves lost for just the fifth time in 33 games when they hit a home run. ... Marcum's previous career high for strikeouts was 11 against Washington on June 16, 2007, when he was with the Toronto Blue Jays. It was his fourth career double-digit strikeout game. ... The Mets will host the New York Yankees on Monday in the annual Subway series while the Braves head to Toronto for the first two contest of a four-game, home-and-home series.
