Astros 6, Brewers 3: Scott Moore homered and Jason Castro had two RBIs as host Houston ended a nine-game losing streak.
Jose Altuve and J.D. Martinez each had three hits and the Astros took advantage of the first-inning ejection of Milwaukee ace Zack Greinke to avoid their first 10-game skid since 2007.
Greinke (9-3) threw only four pitches before being tossed. Jordan Schafer led off the game with a triple and scored on an infield single to first by Altuve.
Greinke spiked the ball to the ground in frustration after covering first and being narrowly edged by Altuve. Umpire Sam Holbrook ejected him and also tossed Brewers manager Ron Roenicke in the ensuing argument.
Houston’s Wandy Rodriguez (7-6) allowed two unearned runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Brett Myers pitched a flawless ninth for his 18th save in 20 opportunities.
Moore’s homer to right off Livan Hernandez started Houston’s three-run third. Jed Lowrie had an RBI double and Castro hit a sacrifice fly to give the Astros a 4-0 lead.
The lead increased to five in the fourth when Altuve stole second and the throw by Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado sailed into center field, allowing Schafer to score from third. Castro added another sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-0.
The Brewers scored sixth-inning runs on Moore’s fielding error and a wild pitch by reliever Fernando Rodriguez. Cody Ransom hit a run-scoring double in the eighth to pull Milwaukee within 6-3.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Moore has homered in back-to-back games and has an eight-game hitting streak since being recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. … Greinke had won four straight decisions and the loss was his first since May 26 … Houston was outscored 51-19 during its losing streak … Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez fanned four times and is 1-for-9 with six strikeouts in the series.
