Twins 3, Mariners 2: Joe Mauer’s two-out RBI single keyed a three-run seventh inning that helped visiting Minnesota hand Seattle its seventh consecutive defeat.

Seattle starter Jason Vargas allowed just four hits over 6 1/3 innings and left with a 2-0 lead, but reliever Tom Wilhelmsen (1-1) walked two to load the bases and then put Minnesota on the board with an errant throw. Jamey Carroll then tied the game with an RBI fielder’s choice, and Mauer’s infield hit gave the Twins the lead.

Carl Pavano (2-2) got the win, departing after six efficient innings and scattering eight hits as Minnesota improved to 7-18. Pavano threw just 69 pitches before handing the ball off to the bullpen. Brian Duensing and Glen Perkins each tossed an inning of perfect relief to set the table for Matt Capps, who struck out Ichiro Suzuki and Jesus Montero in a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Mariners drew first blood on RBI doubles by Kyle Seager and Mike Carp in the fifth inning.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chris Parmelee scored on Wilhelmsen’s error, breaking Minnesota’s scoreless innings drought at 25 ... Carroll’s first-inning single snapped the Twins’ string of 47 hitless at-bats, the longest in the majors since San Diego in 1995 ... The Mariners fell to 3-7 at home.
