Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs to lead the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates to a 7-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.
Jose Tabata and Garrett Jones each hit solo homers for the Pirates.
Knotted at 6-6 in the eighth, Pittsburgh got to Logan Ondrusek (2-1) when Chris Snyder came around to score from second base on McCutchen’s two-out single to center after Ronny Cedeno's failed squeeze attempt.
Joel Hanrahan loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but got Drew Stubbs to fly out to center to end the game to earn his fifth save. Chris Resop (1-0) got credit for the win.
Edinson Volquez once again had first-inning problems for the Reds, allowing four runs in the opening frame, including back-to-back homers to lead off the game by McCutchen and Tabata. Of the 17 runs that Volquez has allowed this season, 13 have come in the first inning.
Cincinnati would battle back, getting single runs in the second and fourth before taking the lead with a three-run fifth.
Pittsburgh chased Volquez and regained the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth but Jay Bruce knotted it again at 6-6 with a solo blast in the seventh.
