The Florida Marlins picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the bullpen made the lead stand up as they downed the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Saturday night.
Mike Stanton got the Marlins on the board with a one-out RBI single that scored Osvaldo Martinez and moved Logan Morrison to third. Chad Tracy followed that with a sacrifice fly to bring Morrison home.
Florida’s Jorge Sosa was forced to fill in for scheduled starter Alex Sanadia, who was scratched after experiencing discomfort in his pitching elbow. Sosa stepped in and threw four scoreless innings, allowing five hits while walking two and striking out one.
Brian Sanches (2-2) took the ball after that and struck out three batters over two innings to earn the win. Clay Hensley came on in the ninth and allowed two base runners before striking out Ryan Doumit to pick up his sixth save of the year.
Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton (2-12) gave up the two runs on six hits, but also struck out a season-high nine batters.
