Gunnar Henderson clubbed a two-run homer for one of his three hits while Adley Rutschman had three RBIs as the visiting Baltimore Orioles won 9-5 on Sunday to split a four-game set with the Cleveland Guardians.
Eloy Jimenez also had three hits, plus an RBI, while rookie Jackson Holliday went deep for the Orioles, who totaled 16 runs and 30 hits to win the final two of this series after being outscored 18-7 in losing the first two. Baltimore's Corbin Burnes (12-4) matched a career high for wins despite allowing five runs (four earned) and seven hits over five innings.
Josh Naylor hit a three-run homer for the Guardians, who collected 10 hits and stole five bases, but couldn't hold down the Orioles' offense. Cleveland's Gavin Williams (1-4) struck out eight, but yielded six runs, eight hits and two walks over four innings.
Williams retired the first two batters of the game, then Henderson singled and scored on Ryan O'Hearn's double that bounced over the third base bag. The Orioles added two more in the third when Colton Cowser walked, went to third on Anthony Santander's double and scored on Rutschman's sacrifice fly. Jimenez added a two-out RBI single.
Cleveland, though, made it a one-run contest in the third. Steven Kwan delivered an RBI single up the middle and later scored on Burnes' two-out throwing error off Jose Ramirez's infield hit.
Baltimore bounced back to score three times in the fourth. Holliday made it 4-2 by sending a Williams pitch into the right field seats. Then, after Cowser singled to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, Henderson drove a Williams curve just over the wall in right-center field.
However, Cleveland again made it a one-run game in the fifth. Singles by Kwan and Ramirez eventually set the table for Naylor to drill a two-out, three-run shot over the center field wall.
Baltimore again answered, this time with two runs in the sixth. Cowser got the ball rolling with an infield single and eventually scored when Ryan Mountcastle dumped a single into center field off Nick Sandlin. Rutschman's ensuing RBI double made it 8-5.
Rutschman added a two-out, run-scoring single in the eighth.
