Chad Wallach doubled home the go-ahead run in the 11th inning as the visiting Miami Marlins extended their winning streak to four games by downing the slumping Detroit Tigers 5-4 on Tuesday.
The Marlins took the lead after Joe Jimenez (2-2) retired the first two batters of the 11th. Miguel Rojas reached on an infield single prior to Wallach's second RBI double, which bounced off the wall in left-center.
Brian Anderson homered and drove in two runs for the Marlins, who gave away a 4-2 lead in the ninth. Nick Anderson (1-1) racked up five strikeouts in two scoreless innings while picking up his first major league victory.
Harold Ramirez hit his first career homer and added another hit while scoring twice for the Marlins. Curtis Granderson reached base three times and scored a run.
Miami starter Caleb Smith pitched five innings and gave up two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out seven.
JaCoby Jones hit a solo homer for Detroit, which has lost seven straight, all at home. Miguel Cabrera had two hits and drove in two runs.
Detroit starter Spencer Turnbull gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out four.
Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire was ejected in the ninth inning for arguing an overturned call.
In the first, Granderson led off with a single and Garrett Cooper followed with another base hit, moving Granderson to third. Brian Anderson's sacrifice fly knocked in Granderson.
Miami also scored in the second on a Ramirez single and Wallach's double to right.
Jones ripped a two-out homer to right in the third to get Detroit on the board. Ramirez answered the next inning with a leadoff blast.
The Tigers made it 3-2 in the fourth on Nicholas Castellanos' one-out double and Cabrera's RBI single.
Anderson gave the Marlins a two-run cushion in the seventh by crushing a Nick Ramirez changeup over the left field fence.
Detroit tied the game in the ninth against closer Sergio Romo. Niko Goodrum had an infield single, and Castellanos reached on an error. Cabrera then snuck a single into left, bringing in Goodrum. Ronny Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
