Phillies 5, Mets 1: Pinch hitter Ryan Howard belted a two-out, two-run double to break a tie in the seventh inning and visiting Philadelphia went on to complete a three-game sweep.

Phillies starter Cole Hamels (1-3) walked six in six innings, but allowed only two hits, one run and struck out eight for his first victory. Howard, who has recorded 10 RBIs in his last five games and seven in the series, made it 3-1 with his clutch hit and Freddy Galvis homered in the fifth for Philadelphia.

Ruben Tejada had a pair of doubles for the Mets, who have lost four straight and scored only five runs in the series. New York starter Jon Niese (2-2) allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) in 6 2/3 innings.

Pinch hitter Laynce Nix, still alive after catcher John Buck could not catch his foul pop, singled with two out in the seventh and Rollins followed with another off Niese. Howard doubled to deep center against reliever Scott Atchison and Chase Utley followed with an RBI single for a 4-1 lead.

Tejada doubled to lead off the bottom of the first and scored on David Wright’s one-out single for a 1-0 Mets lead. Galvis tied the game at 1 in the fifth, golfing a 1-2 pitch by Niese into the left-field stands for his first hit as a right-handed batter this season after starting 0-for-11.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies C Carlos Ruiz returned to the team after finishing his 25-game suspension for testing positive for an amphetamine and C Humberto Quintero was designated for assignment to make room. Ruiz registered a ground-rule double in the sixth. … Wright saw his streak of 77 errorless games at third base snapped in the first inning when he bobbled a grounder. … Nix is 7-for-13 with a pair of homers as a pinch hitter this season.
