Orioles 10, Athletics 2: Chris Davis belted his eighth home run and Jason Hammel tossed six strong innings as visiting Baltimore routed Oakland in the opener of the four-game series.
The Orioles trailed early after Josh Donaldson’s two-run double in the second before scoring three runs in the third off Jarrod Parker (0-4), who gave up six runs over 5 1/3 innings. Nate McLouth and Nick Markakis had two hits and two RBIs apiece for Baltimore, which has won six of its last eight.
Oakland, which has lost eight of 12 since winning nine in a row, was outhit 15-6 and allowed Baltimore to score in five of the final seven innings. Hammel (3-1) held the Athletics to two unearned runs on three hits.
McLouth, who sparked the Orioles’ three-run third inning with an RBI single, had two runs scored and two stolen bases. The Baltimore leadoff hitter has reached base 15 times in his last 25 plate appearances. Adam Jones added three hits and an RBI double for the Orioles, who recorded their fourth win in their last 20 games in Oakland.
Davis broke a 1-for-12 skid with a leadoff homer in the sixth to put the Orioles ahead 5-2, and they were just getting started. Baltimore added one more run in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth, one on an RBI single by Davis.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland pitching coach Curt Young was ejected for arguing a no-call on Nolan Reimold’s check swing in the third inning. … Hammel has pitched at least six innings in all five starts this season, and has gone six innings in four of his outings. … All nine Orioles recorded at least one hit.
