Giants 15, Cardinals 0: Marco Scutaro hit a grand slam and drove in a career-best seven runs and Ryan Vogelsong pitched seven shutout innings to lead visiting San Francisco to its largest shutout victory in St. Louis.

Scutaro’s third career slam came in the ninth inning off Mitchell Boggs and gave the Giants a 15-run lead, surpassing the franchise’s previous largest shutout victory in St. Louis – an 11-0 margin in 1894.

Scutaro is the first San Francisco player to drive in seven runs in a game since Jeff Kent turned the trick against the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 1, 2001.

Vogelsong (10-5) allowed three hits and three walks and struck out three as the Giants defeated St. Louis for the second straight night and handed the Cardinals their third-worst home shutout loss in franchise history. St. Louis lost 19-0 to Pittsburgh on August 3, 1961

The Giants began breaking the game open with a five-run sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead.

Hunter Pence’s run-scoring single off Joe Kelly (2-5) plated the first run of the sixth. The floodgates opened when Cardinals second baseman Tyler Greene let a bases-loaded, double-play grounder by Ryan Theriot go right through his legs for two runs. Brandon Crawford added a run-scoring single to make it 6-0 and Angel Pagan capped the uprising with a sacrifice fly.

San Francisco added four runs in the eighth. Brett Pill singled in one run, Scutaro doubled home two and Melky Cabrera added a sacrifice fly.

Pence had a run-scoring single in the first and Scutaro singled home a run in the third.

Kelly gave up seven runs (four earned) and nine hits in five-plus innings.
