White Sox 10, Indians 6: A.J. Pierzynski homered and drove in four runs, helping Chicago slug its way to a second straight victory in Cleveland.
The White Sox took a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Justin Masterson (0-1) and then broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning after the Indians had cut the deficit to one. Alejandro De Aza made it a 7-4 game with a two-run homer off reliever Dan Wheeler, and Pierzynski added a three-run shot against Rafael Perez after Paul Konerko was intentionally walked.
Chicago starter John Danks (1-0) needed all the help he could get on a day that saw him walk five and give up seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He departed with a one-run lead, and Will Ohman, Jesse Crain and Matt Thornton came out of the bullpen to finish the job after De Aza and Pierzynski provided a more comfortable cushion.
Masterson gave up five runs, three of them earned, in his five innings. He struck out two while allowing eight hits and a walk.
Travis Hafner homered and drove in three runs for the Indians, cutting the Chicago lead to 5-4 with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cleveland had runners at the corners in the eighth with Hafner on deck, but Crain struck out Carlos Santana to end the threat.
Shelley Duncan added a two-run homer in the home half of the seventh to close the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tuesday’s game was postponed due to cold and rain in the Cleveland area ... The Indians came into the game batting .153 (23-for-150), the lowest figure in the major leagues ... Konerko, now hitting .450 on the year, has had two or more hits in four of Chicago’s five games.
