Luke Weaver pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday night in Phoenix.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run double, and Pavin Smith scored twice as Arizona prevailed in its first game back home after an 0-6 road trip. Smith also robbed Sandy Leon of a ninth-inning solo homer with a leaping catch in right field to end the game.
Seven of Arizona's eight hits went for extra bases, with David Peralta going 2-for-4 with a triple and double.
Weaver (2-3) allowed four hits and no walks, striking out six and avenging his 8-0 loss to the Marlins in Miami on Wednesday.
After Weaver allowed 17 runs in his previous 17 innings, covering four starts, there had been talk of removing him from the rotation. But those thoughts might be gone now.
Marlins rookie right-hander Jordan Holloway (1-1), making his first major league start in his seventh appearance, lasted just 3 2/3 innings. Holloway allowed five hits, three walks and four runs, three earned, while striking out one.
Arizona loaded the bases with no outs in the first and third innings.
In the first, Arizona scored just one run, on Peralta's RBI groundout. Holloway escaped further damage by getting Christian Walker to bounce into a double play.
In the third, Cabrera lined a two-run double down the first base line, and Carson Kelly later scored on a two-out passed ball charged to Chad Wallach.
Miami threatened in the second when Corey Dickerson pulled a leadoff double down the right field line, but the Marlins failed to advance him.
In the Marlins' fifth, Arizona shortstop Nick Ahmed made a sensational play, fielding a high chopper with his bare hand and throwing out speedy Lewis Brinson, who missed the first base bag.
Backup catcher Wallach, who has played parts of five years in the majors, was then credited with his first career triple as center fielder Daulton Varsho missed on his attempt at a diving catch. However, Weaver got Jon Berti to ground out to end the threat.
In the bottom of the inning, Arizona extended its lead to 5-0 on consecutive two-out doubles by Peralta and Walker.
Miami got on the board in the eighth. Berti hit a leadoff triple when Varsho again came up empty on a diving attempt, and Jesus Aguilar cashed in with a two-out, two-run homer against Joakim Soria.
Stefan Crichton pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save in four chances this year with the help of Smith's catch.
