J.D. Davis laced the game-winning hit to cap a 10th-inning comeback Wednesday night by the New York Mets, who edged the visiting Cleveland Indians 4-3.

The Mets have won four in a row and are 20-5 since July 25. The Indians have lost six of eight.

Carlos Santana gave the Indians the lead with a two-out homer in the top of the 10th against Luis Avilan (4-0). But the Mets wasted no time mounting a comeback in the bottom of the inning, when Amed Rosario hit a leadoff double against Brad Hand (6-4).

After Joe Panik bunted Rosario to third, the southpaw Hand intentionally walked Pete Alonso to bring up left-handed hitting Michael Conforto, who hit a potential double-play ball to first. But Santana was too far into the hole to get back to the base, and no one could cover first as Conforto reached without a throw and Rosario scored on a fielder's choice.

Slow-footed Wilson Ramos then hit a slow roller up the third-base line and beat Hand's throw to first. Davis fell into an 0-2 hole, worked the count full and fouled off three pitches before lacing a single to left. Conforto scored without a throw, and Davis was greeted behind second base by Alonso, who tried ripping his shirt off as he did for Conforto after a walk-off hit earlier this month.

The Indians generated plenty of traffic against Mets starter Marcus Stroman but scored just one run before he exited after the fourth inning due to left hamstring tightness. Francisco Lindor led off the third with a single, went to third on a one-out double by Santana and scored on Yasiel Puig's groundout.

Stroman allowed the one run on five hits and one walk while striking out one.

The Mets, who didn't have a baserunner until Panik singled with one out in the fourth, tied the score in an eight-pitch span in the fifth. Todd Frazier laced a one-out single and scored on Juan Lagares' double. Lagares then raced home on a pinch-hit double by Luis Guillorme, and the Mets led 2-1.

The Indians tied the score in the sixth, when Santana drew a leadoff walk against Brad Brach and scored on a one-out triple by Jose Ramirez.

Indians starter Adam Plutko allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five.
