Richard (1-4) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings on Canada Day to earn his first win since June 22, 2018, when he was with the San Diego Padres. He was 0-9 with a 7.10 ERA in 18 starts between wins.

Teoscar Hernandez also hit a home run for the Blue Jays, who took three of four games in the series with the Royals.

Kansas City starter Glenn Sparkman (2-4) allowed eight runs on nine hits, including three home runs, along with one walk and strikeout in three innings.

The Blue Jays, who had 18 hits in the game, scored twice in the first. Eric Sogard singled and took third on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s double and scored on Biggio's groundout to second. Grichuk -- who was 4-for-5 -- followed with an RBI single.

The Blue Jays added five runs in the second. Hernandez hit his eighth homer this season and Galvis hit his 13th. Guerrero walked and took third on a double by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Biggio hit a two-run double and scored on Grichuk's single.

Galvis homered again in the third to make it 8-0.

The Royals, who finished their road trip at 2-5, scored three in the fourth. Nicky Lopez singled and was forced at second on Alex Gordon's grounder. Hunter Dozier walked and Jorge Soler, Cheslor Cuthbert and Humberto Arteaga each had RBI singles.

Brian Flynn replaced Sparkman and walked Guerrero and Gurriel and allowed RBI singles to Biggio and Grichuk in the fourth.

The Blue Jays added a run in the sixth on Gurriel's infield hit, Biggio's single and Grichuk's RBI single.

The Royals scored a run in the seventh against David Phelps on Martin Maldonado's double and Whit Merrifield's single.
