San Francisco outfielder Austin Slater had three hits and two RBI doubles and rookie left-hander Albert Suarez extended his strong June run in the Giants' 2-1 victory over the host Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Friday.
Slater had an RBI double in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, and he broke a 1-1 tie with a seventh-inning double off Andrew Chafin (1-3) as the Giants won for the fifth time in six games and the eighth in 10. Slater was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento for the fourth time this season last Saturday.
Suarez (3-4) gave up one run on seven hits, but five of those hits did not leave the infield. He struck out five and walked two, lowering his ERA to 2.62 ERA in six starts this month. Suarez has not walked more than two in any of his 13 starts this season, extending his franchise record (since 1913).
Chris Owings had two hits and Jake Lamb had a sacrifice fly for the Diamondbacks, who had won three in a row and seven of eight.
Reyes Moronta, Tony Watson and Will Smith each pitched a scoreless inning for the Giants. Smith had his first save on a night that Sam Dyson was unavailable.
Patrick Corbin gave up four hits and one run in six innings, with five strikeouts and one walk.
Buster Posey singled and took second on an error by center fielder Owings to open the second inning and scored on Slater's one-out double for a 1-0 lead. The last time the Giants faced Corbin at Chase Field on April 17, they only got one hit -- a two-out, checked-swing single in the eighth inning by Brandon Belt.
Corbin was 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA in three starts against the Giants this season before Friday.
Suarez stranded runners on first and second base with two outs in the second inning and left the bases loaded with two outs in the third.
The Diamondbacks had runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth inning before Suarez got David Peralta to ground out.
Ketel Marte doubled, took third on Owings' infield single and scored on Lamb's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to tie it at 1.
