MILWAUKEE -- Brandon Finnegan threw five shutout innings and Scott Schebler had two hits with a pair of RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.
Finnegan (10-11) closed the book on his first full big league season on a high note. He struck out four batters and scattered three hits without walking a batter, picking up his tenth victory of the season.
For the second straight game, the Reds got on Milwaukee early. Scott Schebler and Adam Duval both doubled and scored in the first inning, staking Finnegan to a 2-0 lead before throwing his first pitch.
Schebler made it a 3-0 game in the third with an RBI single.
All three were charged to Brewers starter Wily Peralta (7-11), though only two were earned. Peralta worked six innings for Milwaukee, allowing five hits while walking three and striking out five.
Steve Selsky gave the Reds' bullpen some breathing room with a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh. The Brewers finally broke the shutout in the bottom of the inning when Hernan Perez led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and moved to third on Orlando Arcia's base hit.
Catcher Ramon Cabrera made a bad throw on Arcia's attempt to steal second, allowing Perez to score. Arcia made it a 4-2 game when he scored on pinch-hitter Scooter Gennett's ground out.
Jumbo Diaz escaped the inning without further damage, Blake Wood struck out the side in the eighth and Raisel Iglesias needed only 15 pitches in the ninth for his fourth save.
Ryan Braun, playing perhaps his final home game in Milwaukee, finished with two hits. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the fourth.
He received a standing ovation from the announced crowd of 31,776 as he came up to bat with one on and two out in the eighth.
Perez also finished with two hits for Milwaukee, but the Brewers couldn't do much with their limited opportunities and finished the day 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
NOTES: A moment of silence was held prior to the game and several members of the Brewers chose not to play walk-up music for their at-bats to pay their respects to Miami Marlins RHP Jose Fernandez, who was killed in a boating accident early Sunday. ... Brewers C Martin Maldonado returned to the lineup Sunday after sitting out the last two days as part of baseball's concussion protocol. ... Cincinnati manager Bryan Price said chances were slim that RHP Homer Bailey would pitch again this season. The veteran returned from Tommy John surgery on July 31 but made just six starts before he was sidelined with tightness in his right biceps. Because of that, Bailey hasn't pitched in nearly a month. ... The Reds clinched a victory the season series for the fourth time in five years on Saturday.
