OAKLAND, Calif. -- Left-hander Scott Kazmir pitched seven shutout innings, and rookie first baseman Mark Canha went 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs in his major-league debut, leading the Oakland A's to a 10-0 rout of the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night at the O.co Coliseum.

Kazmir allowed just one hit and struck out 10 in his first start of the season, notching double-digit strikeouts for the 23rd time in his career.

He had a visit to the mound from the A's trainer during the top of the fourth inning and took a quick trip to the A's clubhouse after that frame but stayed in the game.

Second baseman Tyler Ladendorf, another A's' rookie making his major-league debut, lined an RBI triple in his first at-bat during a five-run third inning for the A's. He scored two runs and had two RBIs on the night.

Right fielder Cody Ross, who signed with Oakland as a free agent Wednesday, singled, scored a run and drove in two in his A's debut.

Left-hander Ross Detwiler allowed nine hits and eight runs, five earned, over 4 1/3 innings in his Rangers debut and first start since July 3, 2013, with the Nationals. He struck out two and walked two.

The Rangers committed four errors, two by shortstop Elvis Andrus, one by third baseman Adam Rosales and one by first baseman Prince Fielder.

The A's scored five runs in the third inning, taking a 5-0 lead and sending nine batters to the plate against Detwiler.

Shortstop Marcus Semien started the rally with a one-out single and scored when Ladendorf lined a pitch to left-center for an RBI triple in his first major-league at-bat.

Ross singled sharply to left, driving in Ladendorf and moving Semien to second. Detwiler walked Billy Butler to load the bases, and Canha doubled high off the right-field wall, clearing the bases with his first major-league hit and missing a grand slam by inches. After a crew chief review to determine whether Canha's drive went over the wall, the initial call of a double stood.

The A's made it 6-0 in the fourth, taking advantage of errors by Andrus and Rosales, a walk and a passed ball charged to catcher Robinson Chirinos that allowed catcher Josh Phegley to score from third.

Oakland increased its lead to 8-0 in the sixth, stringing together singles by Canha, Brett Lawrie, Phegley and Semien.

NOTES: Veteran outfielder Cody Ross signed with the A's as a free agent on Wednesday and started in right field against the Texas Rangers. Ross was released by Arizona on Saturday. "I couldn't be any more excited," Ross said before the game. "I know how much fun this team's had in the past and how successful they've been." ... A's outfielder Billy Burns was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, making room on the 25-man roster for Ross. ... Outfielder Alex Hassan was designated for assignment at Triple-A Nashville, clearing a spot on the A's 40-man roster for Ross. ... Rangers right-hander Kyuji Fujikama, who is on the disabled list with a groin strain, will throw his first bullpen session Friday since being injured. ... Texas right-hander Nick Martinez will make his 2015 debut Thursday against the A's. Martinez went 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA in four games, including three starts, as a rookie last season against Oakland.
