BOSTON -- Russell Martin spent the first six innings of Saturday's game trying to catch R.A. Dickey's dancing knuckleball and missing fastballs he felt he should have punished.

But the veteran catcher, a major free-agent acquisition by Toronto in the offseason, led off the 11th inning with a solo homer to give his team a 5-4 win over the floundering Boston Red Sox and the Blue Jays' first 10-game winning streak in two years.

Martin, who said catching the knuckler is "almost like trying to catch a butterfly with your bare hands," was guilty of three passed balls -- two in one inning -- during Dickey's stint. And the Jays blew a 4-0 lead but still found a way to win.

"I feel like I was helping Boston out a little bit in the early innings," Martin said after sending the Red Sox to their fifth straight loss. "But I guess (I) sealed the deal at the end."

Martin, who signed a five-year, $82 million contract to return to his native Canada, hit what he called a 2-0 "challenge fastball -- it was right down the middle" -- off right-hander Matt Barnes (2-2) for the win. It was Martin's 10th homer of the season, one shy of last year's total with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"I had two other at-bats where I got a 3-0 fastball and another 2-0 fastball and I didn't do anything with it," Martin said. "Fortunately, fool me once, fool me twice, but the third time I'm going to get you. And that's what happened."

On Friday night, the Blue Jays (33-30) roared back from an 8-1 deficit and scored nine runs before the first out of the seventh inning -- three on Martin's triple. This time, the Jays blew the lead.

Dickey, winless in his last four starts and 0-2 against the Red Sox this season, had his knuckler really dancing but couldn't hold the lead.

Toronto scored three in the second inning off Boston starter Clay Buchholz; center fielder Kevin Pillar drove in one run and second baseman Ryan Goins batted in two. Shortstop Jose Reyes followed two-out singles by both with an RBI single, making it 4-0 in the fourth.

But the Red Sox (27-36) came right back in the bottom of the inning as shortstop Xander Bogaerts drove in one run and third baseman Pablo Sandoval scored two to make it 4-3. Designated hitter David Ortiz then tied it with a solo homer in the sixth.

But Ortiz and Bogaerts failed to come through in the seventh, when right-hander Liam Hendricks faced a bases-loaded, one-out situation with the game tied. He struck out both Red Sox players, Bogearts on three pitches.

"He's got his back against the wall and (gets) back-to-back punchouts," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "That's real hard to do."

It's the latest sign the Red Sox can't come through with the big moment.

"Middle of the order and big opportunity that we were unable to cash in on," manager John Farrell said.

Left fielder Hanley Ramirez had the third single of the inning to load the bases, but he seemed upset that second baseman Dustin Pedroia held up to make sure the looping hit went through. The two appeared to have words in the dugout and then again at second base as they took their positions.

"It was a discussion about in-game baserunning," Farrell said.

Martin's homer made a winner of left-hander Aaron Loup (2-3), with left-hander Brett Cecil pitching the bottom of the inning for his fourth save and second in as many games.

Buchholz, who worked six innings, has one win in his last six starts and just two since winning on Opening Day.

Sandoval left the game after six innings because of right quad tightness.

"There's a lot of season left," Bogaerts said. "Obviously we didn't expect to be where we are right now. ... No one expected us to be like this."
