Mariners 10, Yankees 2: Felix Hernandez worked seven strong innings and visiting Seattle piled on late to win a make-up game in New York.
Kyle Seager had a three-run homer, two triples and a double while Michael Saunders homered and drove in three runs as the Mariners won their third straight contest. Hernandez (8-1) allowed two runs while striking out eight without issuing a walk to improve to 5-1 with a 1.37 ERA in seven starts at the new Yankee Stadium.
Former Mariner Ichiro Suzuki had a two-run infield single to provide the offense for the Yankees, who have dropped 10 of their last 14 home games. David Phelps (1-3) was knocked around for a season-high six runs in six innings.
Seager tripled leading off the second and came in on Mike Zunino's infield hit to start the scoring. Dustin Ackley had an RBI groundout in the fourth for a 2-0 lead before Ichiro knotted the score with a two-run infield single in the home half of the frame.
Phelps matched Hernandez until Seattle rallied in the seventh, as Zunino doubled and Ackley walked before both came home on Brad Miller's tiebreaking base hit to center. Saunders added a two-run single later in the inning to make it 6-2 and both he and Seager took Alfredo Aceves deep in the ninth to put the finishing touches on the Mariners' fifth straight win in New York.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The game was the make-up of a rainout on April 30. ... Mariners 2B and former Yankee Robinson Cano went 1-for-3 in his return to the lineup after missing four games with a bruised right hand. ... Phelps has yet to allow a home run in six starts this year and has kept the ball in the park in nine consecutive starts at Yankee Stadium.
