Twins 11, Tigers 4: Brian Dozier homered, scored three runs and drove in three while Oswaldo Arcia also went deep and had three RBIs as visiting Minnesota mauled Detroit.
Kurt Suzuki had two RBIs and Danny Santana had three hits and scored twice as the Twins won for the third time in four games. Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a homer for the Tigers, who had a three-game winning streak halted and saw their lead in the American League Central dip to one game over the Kansas City Royals.
A.J. Achter (1-0) allowed one run in two innings of relief for his first major-league win. Detroit starter Rick Porcello (15-13) yielded six runs (four earned) and six hits in 3 2/3 frames while losing his fifth straight decision.
Minnesota scored three runs in the first inning on Dozier’s run-scoring single and Arcia’s two-run blast to right. Dozier’s homer to left in the third made it 4-0 and Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos made a two-run throwing error in the fourth as the margin increased to six.
Victor Martinez’s RBI single in the fourth got Detroit on the board and Ian Kinsler and Cabrera each had run-scoring singles in the fifth. Minnesota’s Eduardo Escobar delivered a run-scoring double to start a four-run sixth that included a run-scoring single by Dozier and a two-run single by Suzuki to make it 10-3.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Twins starter Anthony Swarzak gave up three runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. … Cabrera hit his eighth homer and 10th double of the month. … Dozier has four homers and 16 RBIs against the Tigers this season.
