Blue Jays 3, Rangers 1: Edwin Encarnacion hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning to support a strong outing from Esmil Rogers as Toronto edged host Texas.
Encarnacion came up with two on and two out and drilled an offering from Tanner Scheppers into the gap in left-center field. That made a winner out of Rogers (2-2), who limited the Rangers to a run on five hits over a season-high seven innings of work.
Neal Cotts (2-1) allowed the go-ahead run to reach base in the eighth while Nelson Cruz homered to provide the lone offense for the Rangers, who spoiled a sensational outing from Yu Darvish. The second-year hurler allowed a run on three hits over seven innings, fanning nine to raise his major-league leading total to 127.
Cruz's opposite-field blast into the right-field seats opened the scoring in the second, but Toronto responded an inning later. Emilio Bonifacio opened with a single, stole second and came around to score on Melky Cabrera's single to right.
The Rangers were held silent from there, as Rogers kept them off balance while throwing 61 of his 93 pitches for strikes. Steve Delabar struck out the side in the eighth before Casey Janssen worked the ninth for his 14th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Rangers OF Leonys Martin left the game after suffering a sprained wrist while trying to corral Encarnacion's two-run double. X-rays were negative and he's considered day-to-day. ... Blue Jays 1B Adam Lind, who came into the game hitting .398 over his last 30 games, went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. ... Darvish has settled for no-decisions in all three starts against American League East teams so far in 2013.
