Mets 7, Braves 4: John Buck had a pair of hits and three RBIs as host New York salvaged a split of the four-game series.
Rookie Zack Wheeler (4-1) struggled through six innings to win his third straight decision, allowing four runs on four hits to lift the Mets to their ninth victory in 14 games. David Aardsma and LaTroy Hawkins each pitched a scoreless frame before Bobby Parnell recorded his 20th save.
Daniel Murphy and Marlon Byrd each had three hits and an RBI and David Wright added a controversial run-scoring triple as New York won for only the 21st time in 51 home games despite stranding 14 runners.
Dan Uggla clubbed a two-run homer and Freddie Freeman added a solo shot for National League East-leading Atlanta, which fell to 9-11 in July. Braves rookie left-hander Alex Wood gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings in his second major-league start and Kameron Loe (1-2) was charged with three runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Buck's two-run single capped a four-run third inning, but Uggla homered for the second straight game before Freeman tied it at 4-4 in the sixth with a solo shot to straightaway center. New York responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, getting a run-scoring triple from Wright that should have been called a ground-rule double before Buck added a two-out, RBI double for a 7-4 edge.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Uggla's homer was his 11th at Citi Field, the most of any opposing player, while Freeman's blast gave Atlanta an NL-leading 124. ... Mets LF Eric Young Jr. exited the game in the fourth inning due to a strained right knee and was replaced by Andrew Brown. Young tweaked his leg on the play that resulted in Braves RHP Tim Hudson's fractured ankle in Wednesday's contest. ... Manager Fredi Gonzalez was ejected after arguing Wright's triple for Atlanta, which will host St. Louis in a three-game set beginning Friday night. New York heads to Washington to open a four-game series.
