Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 3: Tim Federowicz delivered a three-run double in the eighth inning as host Los Angeles rallied to even the series in a game marred by a benches-clearing melee.
Arizona took a 3-2 lead on Willie Bloomquist’s RBI single in the eighth, but David Hernandez (2-3) walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame. Federowicz belted a one-out double off the wall in left-center field, helping Los Angeles snap a five-game losing streak against Arizona.
Matt Guerrier (2-2) recorded two outs in the eighth for the win and new closer Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth for his third save.
Arizona starter Ian Kennedy hit Yasiel Puig in the face with a pitch in the sixth inning, but the rookie phenom was able to stay in the game before being ejected during the seventh-inning brawl. After Greinke plunked Miguel Montero in the seventh, Kennedy hit Greinke in the left shoulder in the bottom of the frame, causing both benches to clear.
The game was tied at 2-2 as Andre Ethier answered Jason Kubel's two-run homer in the fifth with one of his own an inning later.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers hitting coach Mark McGwire and Puig, along with Arizona manager Kirk Gibson, assistant hitting coach Turner Ward and Kennedy were ejected after the incident. … Los Angeles won for the first time in 26 games when trailing after seven innings. … Jansen was named the Dodgers closer before the game by manager Don Mattingly. He replaced Brandon League, who blew his fourth save opportunity in Monday’s series opener.
