Anthony Santander broke a tie with a three-run home run in the seventh inning and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 6-3 Friday night.

The Blue Jays had their eight-game winning streak end by dropping the opener of the four-game series.

Ryan McKenna hit a two-run home run and Cedric Mullins had a solo shot for Baltimore.

Toronto left-hander Robbie Ray allowed three runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out eight in 4 1/3 innings. He threw 98 pitches before being lifted.

Baltimore right-hander Chris Ellis allowed one run, five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five innings.

Baltimore scored three in the first. Mullins led off with his 28th home run of the season. One out later, Austin Hays extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a triple, and with two out, McKenna hit his second homer of the season.

Toronto scored one in the fifth. With two out, Marcus Semien walked, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled and Bo Bichette hit an RBI single. The Blue Jays left the bases loaded for the second straight inning.

Ray allowed two singles to start the bottom of the fifth and was replaced with one out by Adam Cimber, who induced a flyout and then got a strikeout to end the threat.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. led off the Blue Jays' sixth with a double against new pitcher Fernando Abad. Gurriel scored on an error by second baseman Jahmai Jones on pinch hitter Randal Grichuk's grounder. Grichuk continued to third on an error by third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez. Semien doubled against eventual winning pitcher Conner Greene (1-0) to tie the game.

Baltimore regained a three-run lead on Santander's 15th homer of the season in the seventh against Julian Merryweather (0-1), who had been out since April 14 with an oblique injury. Merryweather could not field a bunt by Mullins to start the inning, and Trey Mancini walked with two out before Santander hit a blast to center.

Cole Sulser worked around two singles with one out in the eighth.

After Tayler Saucedo overcame two walks and a hit batter to pitch a scoreless bottom of the eighth, Sulser worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn his seventh save.

Toronto reinstated right-hander Ross Stripling from the injured list (left oblique strain) Friday and optioned infielder Kevin Smith to Triple-A Buffalo.
