Reds 2, Brewers 1 (13): Brandon Phillips bounced an RBI single into center field with one out in the bottom of the 13th as host Cincinnati rallied to upend Pittsburgh.
The Reds, who were shut out by the Pirates on Tuesday, trailed 1-0 in the ninth before Jay Bruce homered off Pittsburgh closer Jason Grilli to force extra innings. Derrick Robinson singled with one out in the 13th off Vin Mazzaro (3-2), moved to third on Shin-Soo Choo's base hit and came in when Phillips grounded a 3-2 offering into center to end it.
Manny Parra (1-1) got the win after retiring the Pirates in the top half of the 13th, ending six scoreless frames by the Cincinnati bullpen in relief of starter Bronson Arroyo, who gave up just an unearned run in seven innings.
Jeff Locke threw seven scoreless innings to lower his ERA over the last seven starts to a minuscule 0.82 and help Pittsburgh carry a 1-0 lead into the ninth. Grilli had converted 25 straight save chances to start the year and retired the leadoff batter but his first pitch to Bruce was deposited into the seats in right field to make it 1-1.
Starling Marte tripled off Arroyo with two outs in the third and scored when Arroyo could not handle Russell Martin's comebacker. It was all that the Pirates, who were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base, could muster.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Choo batted second for just the second time this year. He has been the leadoff hitter 68 times. ... Pirates CF Andrew McCutchen is 0-for-10 with three strikeouts in the last two games. ... Bruce's blast was the first homer Grilli had allowed in 42 games dating to last season.
