Tyler O'Neill produced two homers, a double and three runs scored for the Cardinals (90-70), who won for the 19th time in 20 games.
Trayce Thompson hit a three-run homer for the Cubs (69-91), who lost for the eighth time in their last 10 games.
Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson threw five shutout innings while allowing just three hits and a walk, striking out four. Giovanny Gallegos (6-5) pitched the ninth and earned the victory.
Cubs starting pitcher Cory Abbott allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Tommy Nance (1-1) took the loss in defeat.
