Ke'Bryan Hayes' RBI groundout in the eighth inning Monday broke a tie and the Pittsburgh Pirates erased a four-run deficit to beat the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5.

With the score 5-5, Arizona reliever Noe Ramirez (0-1) walked the bases loaded with one out in the eighth. Jake Faria replaced Ramirez, and Hayes' grounder brought home Kevin Newman.

Yoshi Tsutsugo homered, Bryan Reynolds hit an RBI triple and Jacob Stallings added an RBI double for the Pirates, who had lost 10 straight at home against Arizona dating back to May 2017.

Pittsburgh starter Wil Crowe gave up five runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Anthony Banda (2-0) struck out the side in the eighth, and David Bednar pitched a perfect ninth for his second save. The Pirates won for the third time in four games while the Diamondbacks fell for the third time in four games.

Daulton Varsho homered, Christian Walker hit a three-run single and Ketel Marte added an RBI single for the Diamondbacks.

Arizona right-hander Humberto Mejia, making his 2021 debut, pitched five innings, allowing two runs and six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. He also doubled and scored during his first-ever appearance with the Diamondbacks.

With one out in the second inning, Varsho homered for the third game in a row. His ninth long ball of the year was a shot to center.

Pittsburgh tied it 1-1 in the fourth when Colin Moran hit a leadoff double and scored on Stallings' double to left.

Mejia opened the fifth with a double. An out later, he scored on Marte's single to put the Diamondbacks up 2-1. Another out later, Carson Kelly was hit by a pitch, and David Peralta's infield hit loaded the bases. Walker hit a long single, off the wall in right-center, to clear the bases, making it 5-1 and chasing Crowe.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ben Gamel tripled and later scored on Reynolds' groundout to pull the Pirates within 5-2.

Pittsburgh tied it in the seventh. With reliever Taylor Clarke in, Tsutsugo's pinch-hit blast to right, his third homer, made it 5-3. An out later, Hayes walked, chasing Clarke for Joe Mantiply.

Reynolds tripled to drive in Hayes to narrow the gap to 5-4. Reynolds scored when Moran reached on third baseman Asdrubal Cabrera's throwing error to tie it.
